MEET THE GLOBALGIRLS
MEET SOME OF OUR GRADUATES
"GGM UK has been fundamentally character-building! During my time at the summer course, to the relationships and experiences that I made after with GGM UK, I have grown so much as a person and discovered a passion for journalism/ film that I wonder whether I would've found without GGM UK"
Jorja Oladiran, Summer Academy 2016
"GGM UK has empowered me to be the woman I am today. Collaborating alongside wonderful people who elevate one another to be our best selves is immensely impactful. For the charity, and for the individuals involved. Since joining GGM UK, I have grown in confidence, gained invaluable skills and built a network of empowering women. Through this, I owe my professional and personal development to GGM UK. I wouldn't be where I am today without it"
Dila Su Yalman, Summer Academy 2020
"GGM UK gave me the courage to pursue my dream of becoming a news journalist. Being surrounded by fellow empowering women empowered me to use my background and love of writing to pave my own way into the field, often through providing voices for those from minority communities"
Danielle Desouza, Summer Academy 2019
MEET AISHA CLARKE
GGM UK 2016 GRADUATE & YOUTH AMBASSADOR
"Without the training and support from GGM UK I wouldn’t have had the confidence to pursue a career in the media industry. GGM UK has provided me with a network of not only my peers but mentors which has continued beyond the training programme and has been invaluable. I now work as a freelance Assistant Producer and the charity was instrumental in helping me onto my career path, especially as I didn’t know anyone who worked in media before participating in GGM UK’s summer school"
Aisha Clarke, Summer Academy 2016
MEET POPPY SHARPLES
GGM UK 2016 GRADUATE
‘After doing the GGM UK training, I realised how important media can be to empower women. I left with more confidence in media skills, in working as a team and knowing how successful women can be in the media. Because GGM was all women, it was such a safe, non-judgmental space to speak about ideas, whereas when you’re in university, there are a lot of strong male opinions which can be quite intimidating.’
MEET RURI MAEDA
GGM UK 2017 GRADUATE
Inspired by GGM UK’s weekend training in documentary storytelling, Ruri - who had never edited a video before - went straight home and made this fabulous short film. It’s a wonderful expression of appreciation, captures the spirit and scope of the training and is a really well structured story. Congratulations and thank you, Ruri!
